Las Ketchup – das sind die Schwestern Lucía, Lola, Pilar und seit 2006 auch Rocío Muñoz, Töchter des bekannten Flamenco-Musikers Juan Manuel Muñoz Expósito, alias El Tomate. Gegründet wurde die Band vom Flamenco-Produzenten Manuel „Queco“ Ruiz, der die besondere Mischung aus Flamenco-Tradition, Pop und unverwechselbarer Performance erkannte – und damit ein weltweites Phänomen schuf.
Durchbruch mit „Hijas del Tomate“
Ihr Debütalbum „Hijas del Tomate“ erschien 2002 – und landete direkt einen internationalen Volltreffer. Mit über zwei Millionen verkauften Alben weltweit war es eines der erfolgreichsten Pop-Alben des Jahres. Der Megahit „The Ketchup Song (Aserejé)“ wurde allein über sieben Millionen Mal verkauft und erreichte Platz 1 in über 20 Ländern – darunter Deutschland, Großbritannien, Japan, Frankreich, Australien und Brasilien.
Auch die Folgesingles wie „Kusha Las Payas“ und das brasilianische Duett „Ragatanga“ mit der Band ROUGE erzielten internationale Charterfolge. Die Band war in aller Munde – und auf jeder Bühne.
Europaweite Bekanntheit: Der Eurovision-Auftritt
Nach einer kurzen kreativen Pause meldete sich Las Ketchup 2006 zurück – in neuer Formation zu viert – und vertraten Spanien beim Eurovision Song Contest in Athen mit dem Song „Un Blodymary“, der zugleich Titelsong ihres zweiten Albums wurde. Auch wenn das Album nicht an den enormen Erfolg des Debüts anschließen konnte, unterstrich es die Vielseitigkeit und das künstlerische Potenzial der Band.

The story of an international pop phenomenon
Las Ketchup consists of sisters Lucía, Lola, Pilar, and since 2006, Rocío Muñoz – daughters of renowned flamenco musician Juan Manuel Muñoz Expósito, aka “El Tomate.” The group was formed by flamenco producer Manuel “Queco” Ruiz, who recognized the unique fusion of flamenco tradition, pop sound, and distinctive performance style – and turned it into a global phenomenon.
Breakthrough with “Hijas del Tomate”
Their debut album Hijas del Tomate was released in 2002 – and was an instant international success. With over two million albums sold worldwide, it became one of the most successful pop records of the year. The mega-hit “The Ketchup Song (Aserejé)” alone sold over seven million copies and reached number one in more than 20 countries – including Germany, the UK, Japan, France, Australia, and Brazil.
Follow-up singles such as “Kusha Las Payas” and the Brazilian duet “Ragatanga” with the band ROUGE also charted internationally. Las Ketchup were everywhere – and on every stage.
Fame across Europe: The Eurovision appearance
After a brief creative break, Las Ketchup returned in 2006 – now as a quartet – and represented Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens with the song “Un Blodymary,” which was also the title track of their second album. While the album didn’t reach the same commercial heights as their debut, it showcased the band’s versatility and artistic potential.
